Changes You Can Make In Your Home for a Better Tomorrow.
It’s time to commit to changes in our homes and our lives which will ensure a bright future for our kids and grandkids. Let’s show people how easy it is to create a more eco-friendly home. Why not take advantage of the New Year to motivate yourself into creating healthier living spaces?
This post is sponsored by Grove Collaborative but the opinions expressed are completely mine. Sharing products that I truly love help support this page.
We all want to make a difference and contribute to the well-being of our beautiful planet, and the time is now. I’ve been researching how to generate the smallest carbon footprint possible within my home. It can begin with the simplest of things, like how we clean our house. Back in October, I made the switch to more eco-friendly, plant-based and sustainable products. We, like many others, also recycle and buy as much as we can from local, organic producers. These are some of the small steps that anyone can do – it’s like they say: enough people making small changes can make a big impact. Stop thinking that your actions won’t matter on a larger scale because they can, and they do. Every little effort is a step in the right direction!
What we all know is that it’s important, now more than ever, to create these changes in ours lives, and commit to making a difference, big or small! It’s easy to think that the things you do on a day-to -day basis don’t make an impact on the outside world. But it’s those little things we all do that can make the biggest changes collectively. It can seem overwhelming, and difficult to know where to start, making it feel easier to simply not start at all. But I’m telling you that it doesn’t have to feel that way. It takes less effort than you think when you commit to making small changes; changes that, eventually, become second nature.
Let me share what we do in our home.
1)We decided back in September to make our home more eco-friendly. I know, I know…what does that mean, exactly? To us, it meant introducing plant-based, sustainable and healthy products from Grove Collaborative into our cleaning routine. It was the easiest change I’ve ever made. I truly love these products.
2) We also stopped using plastic straws, I know it seems small but if everyone did this one small thing, the impact would be huge. (did you know that there are enough straws thrown out each year to wrap around the entire planet 2 and a half times, not to mention the impact on our oceans and wildlife?) (link)
3) We always have a full supply of reusable, aluminum water bottles on hand. That way we don’t need to buy water bottles while out and the kids love having their own bottles. The dollar store has some fun ones For those little ones in your life!
4) We recycle and try to maintain a waste-free home as much as possible. This also means watching the products we buy and trying to elongate extra plastic waste.
5) It can also be as easy as bringing our own reusable grocery bags to the store, and our own coffee mugs to our local coffee shop.
6)We also started using smart technology to help us control the heating and cooling in our home. This way when we aren’t home our house is kept at on eco-mode and lights are turned on as scheduled.

The ‘why?’ of all this is the most important part. We do this for the generations that come after us. I have children and 3 beautiful grandchildren, and I want nothing more than to leave them with a planet that is cleaner and healthier. And whether what you do is big or small, it all makes a difference. Each person who takes action contributes to the biggest change: a healthier environment and a brighter future.
I recently read an article on plastic waste and water bottles and I couldn’t believe the impact this was having on our earth, our home. It was heart-breaking, to say the least.
This is a direct quote from GOGREEN that truly left me speechless:
It is approximated that 46,000 pieces of plastic trash are floating in the ocean per square mile. This plastic is killing animals, leaking chemicals and disrupting ecosystems. Moreover, sixty million plastic bottles are disposed of in one day in the Unites States alone, and eighty percent of those bottles end up overflowing landfills. Each bottle can take up to one thousand years to decompose, leaking dangerous and harmful chemicals during the process.
There is approximately 14 billion pounds of garbage being dumped into the ocean every year. That’s more than 1.5 million pounds per hour.

This scares me. And I know it scares a lot of other people, too. And although it may be tricky to decide where to start, or what you can do to make a difference, it’s time to stop thinking that the changes one person makes can’t have an impact.

I am seeing lots of plastic containers here. What do you do with the Mrs Meyers containers when the soap is gone? I love that product but stopped buying them because of the packaging. Would love if I could buy it bulk at a lot cal store.

We recycle ours and I buy the bagged refills wherever I can.

This is a great post with information that should be known to all about our environmental impact. I started using Mrs. Myers this Fall and am so glad I am. I will never go back!
Sometimes it is starting with the small things. It all makes a difference.

I applaud the content of the products—-however—why are they sold in plastic containers? Why liquid soap in a plastic bottle? Why not market a solid bar of soap in a biodegradable paper wrapper?
They do offer refillable bags as well. I buy those whenever I can. We can also recycle our containers here.

I love these products, would love to have these. I couldn’t afford them before had to use cheaper products, then realized I had to keep using them. PLEASE send them back to me. Thank you !
Just one of the things you can do to make your home a cleaner home.

do some research on mrs. Meyers products. you will see that it is greenwashing which means that they use people’s interest in going green to promote these products but they are full of chemicals such as dioxane that are harmful to people and environment. Also, they talk about plastic being harmful to the earth but it is all packaged in plastic.
Thanks for your feedback. We are making changes each and every day here. Just moved to the refill bags for much of our stuff. It is such a learning curve.
