Welcome! I’m so happy to have you visiting today for our Easy Summer Styling Blog Tour!
Today, I’m going to share my simple summer home decor ideas with you all, so grab your cup of coffee and come and visit for a little. I’m so happy to be a part of The Easy Summer Styling Blog Hop, it was organized by my sweet and talented friend, Kelly from The Tattered Pew. If you’ve come to my page from Becca Adventures In Decorating I’m so happy to welcome you into my home! Becca has such a beautiful way of styling, so I know you’ve already been inspired!
Summer time, is such a fun time of year, around here you will find us doing a lot of barbecuing, cooking and just taking life in. There is usually some relaxing with friends and family on the patio or deck and lost of time spent outside enjoying the beauty that summer brings. In the summer, my house gets a lot of action, meaning people are coming and going and the kitchen is always in use. A busy kitchen means a messy kitchen so, to make things easier for myself, I usually clear things out in this space. I try to keep the counters as free of stuff as possible. Creating a simple summer home that is easy to clean and use!
But, as you all know, that is a really hard thing to maintain! So the less that I have out the easier it is to clean. I mean, I’m happy to eat all the food and create the mess…. I just don’t want to be the one that has to clean it. So, keeping it simple in this space seems to work for me. That being said, you always need just a little bit of pretty, you guys know what I mean! After all, it wouldn’t be a summer home without some pretty!
So, fresh and clean is where I’m at. Adding some pretty simple plants and flowers always brightens any Summer Home. I am using more faux plants then I ever have.
My reasoning for that? I’m busy through the summer months – like everyone else – and it is more than likely I will kill (due to water deprivation) most real plants… so faux it is! A little tip though, if you’re using a clear vase or jar for your faux flowers, just stick a little bit of water in the bottom, no one will guess they are not real.
These pretty galvanized pots were a gift from my momma and I’m loving them! I just stuffed plastic bags into the bottom and placed the pots on top. I love the feel they give to the space. She found these at an antique market for 19 a piece and she was sweet enough to grab a bunch for me!
I also like to add different textures and that’s why the galvanized pots made their way into this space. Those flowers are faux and were purchased at Michaels earlier this year. I’m all about re-using and saving some money! Hubby would say I’m darn right cheap…. I prefer fugal! But in all honesty, I love to see something old or broken given some new meaning…. to find the beauty where others don’t see it.
I wanted to revamp my open glass cabinets, but because they actually serve the purpose of holding my everyday dishes I had to be a bit creative as most of the things just had to stay. So I decided to and add little touches of whimsy to them. A bird here, a cute sign there and a faux plant…just because. There is something about opening a cupboard or a drawer and finding a little something which sparks a smile, that just makes this girl’s heart happy (yup, I call myself a girl because I don’t think we should ever totally grow up).
I carried another galvanized pot and plant over to the eating area and love how it works with the old wooden stand. (stand was found at local store called Coyles).
This is truly the heart of our home. It is where we connect and always where we gravitate towards.
Wall colour is Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore and my cabinets are Cloud White. The flooring is Isocore and this colour is Harrison Pine. The counter top is Quartz from Caesarstone and the colour is Caressa.
The next space I really wanted to focus on was the guest room. Summer, for me, is about family and having those you love come and stay, so I really wanted to create a bright and inviting guest room. With very little budget, I just shopped my home. Adding a mirror to the far wall is one of my absolutely favourite things in the room! It created such a bright space and it looks sooooo much better than the print I had there before. It just feels so much brighter and even bigger!
Here is a before and after.
This time of year means nice white linen bedding, cozy pillows and a pretty throw for those cold nights.
I brought flowers into this space as well, and of course I just had to add a bird or two. Find something you love and bring it into your decor, if you love others will too!
By adding the mirror, the space feels not only brighter but also bigger. A mirror is one of your best tools for adding light and depth to a space, so don’t be afraid of using them! Everything is light and bright and, I hope, inviting now for summer. Again, keeping it simple, bright and light.
So lets recap:
Fresh and faux flowers – maybe mostly faux for those of us that might forget to water them.
Clean, decluttered spaces
Add some texture – wood, galvanized, whatever you heart wants
Put a little surprise behind your doors and drawers
Add a mirror to a smaller space to bring in more light and create a bigger feel
Add bedding that is light, not only in colour but in feel and don’t forget a cozy throw for those nights that are colder.
But my very best tip I’ve saved for last….
Have an open door policy, so those you love can come and go as their schedule permits and always have a well stocked fridge and pantry.. lol This will brighten your summer and make your heart fuller than you can imagine.
