Fall Colours create the perfect backdrop
Fall colours bring with them all the warm, cozy vibes, don’t they? For me this season means bonfires, yummy food ( you can find my go to fall soup recipes here), warm throw blankets, and decorating with colour! Last year I used traditional fall decor in my kitchen, you can find that post here. This year it is all about bringing these vibrant colours into my home, which helped to create warmth and texture. With beautiful fall leaves outside every window in my new home, how could I resist bringing those colours in? Today I’m teaming up with a wonderful group of ladies to show you how we are creating Fall Decor in our homes. If you’ve come to me from the very talented Amy, I know you have been inspired, her table settings are so gorgeous, actually who am I kidding, everything she does is gorgeous. WELCOME – I’m so happy you’re here.
How to bring Colour into your decor.
The first thing I did was go on the hunt for the perfect throw, and this year, that hunt took me all the way to Prince Edward Island! Ultimately, it was my daughter-in-law who found this throw, as I was there visiting my son and his family, and the colours are dreamy, to say the least. That throw then flew clear across three provinces just to pose for my instagram photos (oh ya, it’s also super warm and functional in this space, too!).
Next Adding The Carpet
I wanted something that had rich colours and looked luxurious, but wasn’t going to break the bank. We’ve been working on a very tight budget trying to co-ordinate everything we want to do to this home, which includes some major renos, on top of a ton of painting and seasonal decor changes. After some shopping around, I finally picked this beauty, and I think what drew me to it was the fact that it is not what I would typically go for. If you remember the photos of our previous home, colours like the ones found on this gorgeous rug are definitely not part of my signature style. I guess it’s something about the autumn out here in the country that really has me craving those warm cozy tones inside, too.
You can shop this carpet here.
Adding some texture with Flowers and a Garland
Who says that you can’t have flowers in the fall? I found some really pretty faux flowers at our local dollar store, and I had some from last year that I believe were purchased at Walmart and Michaels. I basically just piled them all into a pretty ironstone pitcher and played around with them until I liked how they looked. This can be achieved so easily (and was very cheap, too!) In years past, I’d always cut and dried hydrangeas from my garden. But I have yet to get a garden planted here. I guess I can add that to my already growing list. You can check out my post on how to dry out hydrangeas for display here.
I always get a ton of questions about this garland, and I so wish I could give you a link for it, but it was purchased a couple of years ago at Homesense Canada. Our Homesense is comparable to Marshalls in the States. I think maybe there is a good DIY project in my future around this garland.
Pillows
Now that I had some of the cozy basics in place, I wanted something to be bold and to pop. Orange pillows definitely seem to do the trick. I found these ones on Amazon, and at such a great price! You can shop them here if you are interested.
Adding the Finishing Touches
The rest of the decor is all about layering. I wanted to keep things simple (construction zone, and all), but I also wanted to ensure we had a cozy place to snuggle up in. I went through my bins and found some old books and some fabric pumpkins from years past, and layered them throughout the space, along with some real plants – which are a great decor addition to any space (in any season!).
And fall decor would not be complete without my girl Chloe. I think she approves, what about you?
I really hope you enjoyed this little tour. To see how I decorated our guest room last year you can checkout this post, Fall Decor In the Bedroom. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi! Thank you Mary. With only one room about half done creating cozy has been hard. But regardless we are so enjoying our new/old home. Appreciate you having me.
Have an amazing day!
I completely love the way you’ve added fall decor to your home. It is soft and subtle yet warm and inviting. I often struggle with adding colour in my decor, but when I see how you do it, I completely want to try it. Your design style is simply beautiful!
Thank you so much! To have some cozy spaces during the renovation phase makes me so happy.

Thank you so much Leanna, it’s been fun discovery our new home. Your fall decor is stunning
Love how your porch looks at night! Fall colors are like the most beautiful canvas you can use to paint your home. The rug and other layers and texture, as well as plants, make your fall home so cozy, warm and inviting. And pillows add depth and richness to the whole space. I’m in love with every corner of your autumn home!
Katarina, you’re so kind! Thank you. It’s been fun finding our balance in this home and discovering where things feel right. I very much appreciate you stopping by.
