Fall Decor In The Bedroom…if you would have said this to me a couple of years ago, I would have said “why?” But now, I’m all about making it cozy and I’m more like “why not?” Just like my ideas of decor have evolved over time, so has my need to add seasonal touches to my spaces. I still like to keep it fairly simple, but a little goes a long way as far as I’m concerned. Fall is one of my favourite seasons, so why not add decor to the bedrooms. Do what makes you happy!
Initially, I thought I’d throw some dried hydrangeas in there and call it a day… Yup, that would have been easy enough, right?
I mean, it kinda worked…but the room really needed some warmth and just a little bit of fun. For me, fall is about colour, texture, warmth and the cozy factor.
When I work on a space, my mind will often take me one way and then lead me down a completely different path. Don’t you love when that happens? Come on now, you have to admit you’ve been there!
I started with this gray and white floral duvet cover, but I ended up just not feeling it. So, off it came and I decided I’d work up from my white bedding. (Don’t worry – I do have a space for that pretty duvet) I loved the texture of this gray throw and thought it would work wonderfully with some gray velvet pumpkins I already had. Don’t pretty textures just make you giddy?
Then I just started to layer. Layers create depth and warmth in a space. I love the depth of the colour orange this time of year, so I added it for the balancing colour to the bedside table and on the window sill. A great ratio to remember when working on a space is the 60/30/10 colour split. White is my 60, gray is my 30, and that little bit of orange works great as my 10 as it just helps balance a room. Just something to keep in mind when decorating.
No guest room is complete without a cozy corner to sit in, even one as small as this. The spot by this window just needed a good soft pillow, a cozy throw and maybe a cup of coffee to warm your bones, and then my guest would be all set to enjoy the beautiful fall decor outside the window.
I also like to leave a basket at the foot of the bed with some towels, homemade soap and some lotion for my guests to use. I think it just adds that little bit of warmth from the heart.
So, there you have it, a quick and simple fall decor update for my guest room. Just remember – colour, texture, warmth and the cozy factor and you’re well on your way to an inviting guest room…or any room, for that matter.
